Welcome to Shaganappi! This friendly residential neighbourhood in the SW quadrant of Calgary is located between 17th Avenue SW and the Bow River. It is bordered to the east by 24th Street SW and to the west by Spruce Drive SW. Shaganappi was annexed to the City in 1910 and became a neighbourhood in 1949. Housing in Shaganappi is a mixture of original bungalows, new infills, apartment and condominium buildings.
17th Avenue offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, yoga and martial arts studios, unique shops, and services. This is a very pedestrian friendly street with multiple crosswalks. Westbrook Mall contains many retailers including Walmart, Safeway, Sport Chek, Mark’s, a small food court and various other stores.
There is excellent transit access in Shaganappi with a C-Train station located directly within the neighbourhood. This line will take you either out to the western neighbourhoods or directly downtown. Numerous bus routes also service this community. Visit www.calgarytransit.ca for the transit schedule and route map. You’ll have instant access to Bow Trail which runs east/west. From Bow Trail, you’ll have easy access to Crowchild Trail and be downtown in only minutes.
As of 2019, Shaganappi was home to approximately 1,626 residents.
The Shaganappi Community Association was founded in 1955 and is one of the oldest in Calgary. It has since grown to include not only Shaganappi, but Sunalta West and Upper Scarboro areas. This community association serves its members with a variety of programming and strives to keep its greenspaces in good shape to not only protect the environment but to ensure it can be enjoyed by residents for generations to come. Shaganappi has many outdoor opportunities for its residents. There are two tennis courts and a basketball court located near the Community Hall on 14th Ave SW, as well as a large greenspace and off-leash park. Golfers will love living in Shaganappi as you’ll have instant access to the Shaganappi Golf Course, which offers a small club house with a licensed snack bar and golf supplies. You’ll be able to enjoy a 18 hole and 9 hole course, a driving range and a putting green. This city owned course also offers golf lessons for those in need of some help with their swing.
