Welcome to downtown Calgary! The Downtown West End is a small neighbourhood that is bounded to the north by the Bow River, to the east by 9th Street SW, to the south by the CPR tracks and to the west by 14th Street SW. This high density community is mostly made up of condominiums and apartment buildings and has only 25 single family detached homes. There are a variety of hotels, restaurants and unique shops nearby, including the “Calgary Design District”, located along 11th Ave SW.
Nearby attractions include the Shaw Millennium Park and Mewata Armouries. Downtown West End is also home to Contemporary Calgary, a spectacular visual arts destination dedicated to modern and contemporary art. The Downtown West-Kerby C-Train station serves this community and will take you out to the western suburbs or up to the north east part of Calgary. Downtown West End is also well connected to the Plus 15 skywalk system.
As of 2019, Downtown West End was home to just over 2,785 residents.
The Downtown West Community Association aims to improve the lives of residents in the Downtown West End through improvements in community amenities and public safety. Living in the Downtown West End gives you instant access to the paved multi-use paths which line the Bow River. Shaw Millennium Park was established in 2000 and is the largest skate park of its kind in North America. It features over 75,000 square feet of skateable surfaces. Shaw Millenium Park also has basketball courts, beach volleyball, and greenspace. It welcomes over 35,000 visitors every year.
