Chinook Park is a small community found in Southwest Calgary. One of the reasons that the community of Chinook Park is so highly sought after is its location and convenient access to downtown Calgary and other parts of the city. Bordered by Glenmore Trail to its north, Elbow Drive to its East, Heritage Drive to its South, and 14 Street W to its West, this neighbourhood truly is a commuter’s dream.
Most homes are inhabited by the homeowner, with only a small percentage of rentals. Most dwellings are single-family homes with a handful of apartment and condo buildings.
Outdoor enthusiasts have a multitude of hiking trails at the nearby Weaselhead Flats, as well as walking and biking paths, and access to water activities like canoeing, sailing, kayaking and more at the Glenmore Reservoir. Heritage Park is a fun family day out with engaging historical attractions as well as assorted rides for the kids.
The Chinook Park Community Association began in 1961 and ten years later was changed to CKE Community Association. (Chinook Park, Kelvin Grove and Eagle Ridge). Respectively one of Calgary’s only tri-communities, the association creates friendships and connections with a wide variety of programs and activities, such as fitness classes, pickleball lessons, karate, dance and yoga, as well as hosting several annual events for local and neighbouring communities. The hall also offers rental space for members hosting private functions like meetings, birthday parties and wedding receptions.
There are a Calgary Board of Education public schools that serve families in Chinook Park. A bilingual elementary school and a senior high school. Additional grade schools are easily accessible in bordering communities including junior high.
There is no lack of amenities and entertainment in this neighbourhood. MacLeod Trail has an abundance of services, cafes, boutiques and box stores.
When it comes to shopping and retail, the residents of Chinook Park have some of the best options readily available to them, including Chinook Centre, one of Calgary’s largest and most popular malls with hundreds of stores, services, restaurants and theatre. Glenmore Landing also offers retail and grocery stores for easy convenience.
