Welcome to downtown Calgary, where you’ll find the 2nd largest concentration of head offices in Canada. The Downtown core is actually divided into several smaller neighbourhoods, including Eau Claire, Central Business District, Chinatown, East Village and the West End. The majority of the downtown core is a dense business area composed of skyscrapers.
The downtown core is bordered by the Bow River & Prince’s Island Park on the north, the CPR mainline tracks to the south and 14th Street W to the west. Calgary’s C-Train line runs directly along 7th Avenue SW, providing free fares in the downtown core. Trains also run south, west, north-west and northeast from the downtown core. Downtown Calgary is home to numerous attractions including the Calgary Tower, Glenbow Museum, Arts Common, Olympic Square, City Hall and the stunning downtown Calgary Library branch. You’ll have easy access to endless amounts of shopping – Stephen Avenue Walk consists of restaurants with patios, galleries, numerous retail outlets and beautiful historical buildings. The CORE Shopping Centre and the Scotia Centre are bordered at either end by Hudson’s Bay. The Sheldon M. Chumir Centre offers 24/7 urgent care service and is located on 4th Street.
As of 2019, the Downtown core was home to 8,683 residents in apartment and condominium buildings.
