Welcome to the fabulous inner city community of Hillhurst! As of the 2019 census, Hillhurst is home to approximately 6,558 residents. This community is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Calgary. It was first settled in the 1880’s when some of the first homesteads began to appear. The community wasn’t officially established until 1914.
This neighbourhood is conveniently located directly north of the downtown core, meaning you can travel to work via car, transit, bike or even by foot! The 10th and 14th Street bridges take you directly from Hillhurst into the downtown core. Memorial Drive, which runs along the southern edge of Hillhurst, will take you east-west across the city. There are a couple of major bus routes that service Hillhurst. As well, the Tuscany-Somerset C-Train line runs through Hillhurst, with the closest station located at Sunnyside. Hillhurst is home to the lively and trendy Kensington shopping area, which offers unique independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. You’ll enjoy spending the day strolling through this one-of-a-kind area. Nearby attractions and services include the downtown core with all of its attractions (including the Glenbow Museum, Bell Studio, Scotiabank Saddledome, Central Library, Core Shopping Centre, Arts Common, and many more!). Hillhurst is home to the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium which hosts major productions throughout the year. Nearby is the Foothills Medical Centre & Alberta Children’s Hospital.
The Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association serves the communities of Hillhurst, Upper Hillhurst, Westmount and Sunnyside in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The association’s primary service areas are for senior and outreach services and child care. This full service community centre also offers a highly popular weekly Farmers’ Markets and Flea Markets. Various recreation programs are also available throughout the year, and the community hall is available for rentals. The Hillhurst community centre features tennis courts and a baseball diamond. Directly across the street is Riley Park, a hugely popular park that attracts visitors from across Calgary. This 9 hectare park offers a stunning greenspace, a cricket pitch, massive wading pool, and the Senator Patrick Burns Memorial Rock Garden.Residents of Hillhurst will definitely want to take advantage of the fabulous river pathway system that runs along the southern edge of Hillhurst, east to west along the Bow River. Not only is it a great recreational opportunity, but it also provides residents with an easy way to get to the downtown core via cycling.
