It is located at the southern edge of the city, north of Stoney Trail, east of Bridlewood and west of Macleod Trail. The Spruce Meadows equestrian facility is located to the southwest. Somerset consists of primarily detached homes.


Shannon Park has 17 acres of pathways, baseball diamonds, playgrounds, soccer fields & tennis courts. Fish Creek Provincial Park has miles & miles of paved and unpaved trails. Activities such as biking, fishing, boating, and golfing can be enjoyed throughout the park.


Local attractions include: Spruce Meadows, &  the Rothney Astrophysics Observatory, The Somerset Waterpark covers seven acres, has three playgrounds, basketballs courts, tennis courts & public washrooms.

Nearby is a community garden, the Shawnessy Public Library, a YMCA & the Cardel Rec Centre.
