Lessons from the Author of “Mentor and Me”

The author of “Mentor and Me” is Alan Stewart of Royal LePage Sussex on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.  Allen is sharing his lessons about business in the new day we find ourselves in.Alan stresses the importance of sticking to the basics.  His wisdom is to teach the fundamentals of business.  Alan states that he has been accused of teaching rudimentary business practices, his question is always the same.  ” are you doing those basic, rudimentary business practices?”  He points out that it is better to keep it simple and effective to get it done rather than to create something complicated that you are not going to do.

The lessons and rewards of giving

A big part of how Allen has built his business by giving to others.  He reminds us to give for the sake of doing good things, not to get.  When you engage with people from a place of giving and supporting you will find your business is rewarded.  It is very important to connect with the community, stick to your commitments even if you don’t see rewards immediately.

What lessons can we bring moving forward

As we move through this time of change in our world we are quickly learning to embrace new technology as well.  Alan speaks of his mother who is now comfortable doing video calls with the entire family. Alan states how important it is to take a look at how we have been doing business.  It is obvious that for everyone, our incomes will be lower this year than last.  It is imperative for us to look at how we can do things differently that will fit in this new economy.  You will want to look at what opportunities have raised because we have had this slowdown.  Things are going to continue to change for the immediate future.  Take a look at how to position your business for when things do settle down.

Key’s to success

Resiliency is a major factor in moving forward.  Staying healthy, and positive as we together.  Using this free time as a gift to focus on what we can do.  Build-in time for learning, rest and relaxation will also be very important. You can see the entire interview with Alan here.If you are interested in learning more about having a new or a better career in Real Estate reach out and talk to us.You can also find his book, “Mentor and Me” here.
