Founded in 1976, Woodlands is a community in Calgary’s SW. Woodlands is surrounded by many main arteries like 24th St to the West, Anderson Road to the North and 14th St to the East.
Probably the single greatest feature of Woodlands is its access to Fish Creek Urban Provincial Park. Whether it be walking or biking on the100s of km of trails, swimming in an artificial lake or observing numerous species of wildlife, Woodlands and Fish Creek bring nature right to your back door. At 13.48 sq kms, Fish Creek is the second largest urban nature preserve in Canada.
Golf enthusiasts can also rejoice as one of the best golfing experiences not only in Calgary, but in the Country is right at your fingertips. The Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club spans almost 200 acres and is world renown by PGA and Senior PGA players alike as it has hosted the Shaw Charity Classic for many years. And won awards for best event on the Champions Tour.
The biggest boom in construction took place between 1961 and 1980. Roughly 52% of all construction in Woodlands is single detached homes, 20% row housing and a number of apartment and condominium complexes round out the remaining housing options. A very large section of the population of Woodlands have settled in and decided to put down roots as 74% are homeowners.
There had been little to no new construction between 2011 and up until the most recent City of Calgary Census in 2016.
There are also plenty of public schooling options in Woodlands with William Roper Hull which houses grades 1-12, and Woodlands school which is a Kindergarten to grade six facility. There are plenty more schooling options both public and separate in surrounding communities like Woodbine, Canyon Meadows and Braeside to name a few.
Woodlands is also well serviced by Calgary Transit bus routes along 24th street and has direct access to three C-Train stations (Anderson, Canyon Meadows and Fish Creek Lacombe) so getting to and from nearby shopping centers, grocery stores and other major services is a breeze.
